Make a cross stitch pattern without background stitches

With Pic2Pat you can make a cross stitch pattern with an empty, unstitched background, so you only stitch the subject itself. All you need is a photo with a transparent background. Most photo apps can remove the background for you.

In the classic converter, choose the size, then pick the version with the fewest colours that still shows enough detail. Choose the chart type and download the pattern. The background squares have no symbol and the background colour is not in the colour list, so there is nothing to stitch there.

In the new editor, zoom in and out, set the size and use the colour slider to choose how much detail you want. Then choose the chart. If a few stitches inside the picture look empty, zoom in: it is often just a colour that uses a small square as its symbol.
