Questions and answers about Pic2Pat (2026)

What is Pic2Pat?

Pic2Pat turns your own photo into a cross stitch pattern. You choose a photo, pick the size, fabric and number of colours, and the pattern appears while you adjust it. It runs in your browser, nothing to install.

Is Pic2Pat free?

Yes. Making the pattern and downloading the PDF cost nothing. Pic2Pat earns from the floss and fabric kits you can order with the pattern.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Your photo stays on your own phone or computer. Only the finished pattern is sent to Pic2Pat to make the PDF.

Can I adjust the pattern?

Yes. Pic2Pat has two ways of working. The classic mode makes a pattern in one go. The editor mode lets you adjust the pattern while you watch it: how smoothly colours flow into each other, contrast, brightness, white balance and saturation.

Can I make a black and white or sepia pattern?

Yes. Choose full colour, grey scale, sepia or diamond painting.

Which floss brands does Pic2Pat use?

DMC, Anchor, Madeira, Venus, Cosmo, Sullivans and Ministeck.

Which stitches are in the pattern?

Full cross stitches only. Transparent parts of your picture stay empty, so a cut-out photo gives a pattern without background stitches.

Does the PDF work in Pattern Keeper?

Yes. Pic2Pat patterns are certified for use in Pattern Keeper.

How big can a pattern be?

Up to 1000 by 1000 stitches.

Can I order the floss and fabric?

Yes. After downloading the pattern you can order the floss, fabric and accessories as a kit with one click. Later on, scanning the QR code on the pattern brings you to the same kit. Kits are shipped worldwide.

Does Pic2Pat work on my phone?

Yes. Pic2Pat works on desktop, tablet and phone.

Is Pic2Pat available in my language?

Yes, in 20 languages, from Dutch and German to Japanese and Chinese.

Who is behind Pic2Pat?

Pic2Pat is made in the Netherlands and has been online since December 2009.

What does the PDF look like?

The chart uses a symbol for every colour. You choose whether the symbols are printed in colour or in black and white.
